Zoë de Bruijn, 22, flew a commercial jet as co-pilot beside her father, Michel, who was captain, while her mother Marjan worked in the cabin crew on the same KLM flight from Amsterdam.

None of the three initially knew their schedules would put them on the same flight, which took place in August.

De Bruijn said sharing the flight with both parents felt special, particularly because her parents had met while working on a flight.

Following her father into aviation

She grew up watching Michel leave for work in his pilot’s uniform and became interested in aviation as she got older and visited him at work.

Michel has been a pilot for 35 years, after completing his training in 1992.

De Bruijn did well in maths and science at school before deciding to pursue a career in the cockpit.

Training at KLM Flight Academy

She was accepted at KLM Flight Academy at 17 and graduated after two years.

Since then, she has flown with her father five times and with her mother once.
