A former printing works near Sloterdijk, in Westpoort, will open next year as a hub for sustainable textile companies.
The 2,300 square metre space is reserved for circular firms that repair or reuse textiles or design them for easy recycling.
Manager Urban Resort, which runs 24 creative workspaces in the city, wants startups and established firms, from fashion to furniture.
City funding
The city is spending more than €900,000 on renovation and setting up the hub.
Alderman Melanie van der Horst says sustainable alternatives are still more expensive and need support to become the norm.
A quarter of the Dutch textile sector is based in and around Amsterdam, yet only 7% of discarded textiles are recycled.
Tenants and timeline
Natural dye studio Boro x Atelier, which employs tailors returning after burnout, says it is outgrowing its home in an empty school in the Kolenkitbuurt.
The hub offers heavy-duty power, room to make noise and rents that Urban Resort says will undercut some artist studios.
Upcycled streetwear label Saint Muze hopes to get clothing scraps from its new neighbours.
The hub will close after 2034, when this part of Westpoort is redeveloped.
