Sports clubs, gyms, welfare organisations, and community groups across Amsterdam Oost are offering free activities from Friday 18 to Sunday 27 September.

The sessions are part of the citywide Amsterdamse Sport- en Beweegweek, designed to let residents try activities without memberships or commitments.

The borough program features 64 free sessions for different ages and fitness levels, including options for people with disabilities. Offerings range from gymnastics, fitness for seniors, and chair yoga to taekwondo, pencak silat, and punching bag workouts.

Team sports and endurance sessions are also on the schedule, including running, triathlon training, ultimate frisbee, ice hockey, korfball, and table tennis. Participants who prefer a non-physical option can attend chess sessions for children and adults.

Community sports and outdoor sessions

The municipal campaign focuses on lowering barriers to movement, emphasizing that gentle activities such as walking and cycling count alongside intensive exercise. City officials also highlight the social value of sports clubs and neighbourhood groups for meeting local residents.

Oost will host outdoor activities alongside events in sports halls and community facilities, including sessions at Strand IJburg on Sunday 20 and Sunday 27 September. Facilities across the borough, including the Jaap Edenbaan, are participating in the program.

To support activities after the week ends, the municipality is launching Amsterdam Beweegt on 18 September. The new municipal platform will list year-round information on local activities, letting residents search by age, interest, and neighbourhood.
