The Colombian navy flagship ARC Gloria has docked at De Ruijterkade behind Centraal Station for the weekend. The three-masted barque arrived to mark the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Colombia and the Netherlands.
The vessel is carrying Colombian navy trainees, as well as one Spanish and one Portuguese crew member. Its visit includes cultural events focusing on Colombian music and dance.
Open to visitors before heading to Oslo
The ship draws attention along the waterfront with its tall masts and a very large Colombian flag. Its name comes from the opening words of Colombia’s national anthem, Oh gloria inmarcesible.
The vessel will remain moored on the IJ through Sunday. On Monday, the crew will set sail for their next destination in Oslo.
