A neighbourhood initiative where residents leave unwanted household items on the street for others to take is coming to the city centre this weekend.
Organiser Martine Zwijnenberg, who has regularly arranged similar trails in Amsterdam West, is bringing the Gratis Spullen Route to the western canal belt on Sunday 27 September.
How the trail works
Residents place usable belongings they no longer need outside on the pavement to give them a second life. Everything offered must be completely free, and selling items is strictly prohibited.
Passersby can follow a walking route to see what is available and pick up anything useful. Once the event ends, participants are required to clear away whatever has not been taken.

People who want to put items outside have until 20:00 on Saturday 26 September to register with the organisation. A map showing all registered locations will then be published on Facebook and Instagram.
At least 26 addresses have signed up so far. The event covers the area bounded by Haarlemmer Houttuinen, Prinsengracht, Raadhuisstraat, and Damrak.
