The Batavia, the world’s largest reconstruction of a seventeenth-century ship, has arrived at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam. Tugs towed the vessel from Lelystad starting at 07:00 on Friday morning.
During the journey across the water, the historic ship passed landmarks including the Schellingwouderbrug and Centraal Station before reaching the wharf around 13:30.

Major repairs at Damen Shiprepair
The vessel measures over 56 metres long and is currently in poor condition. Damen Shiprepair in Amsterdam will lift the ship out of the water to carry out extensive maintenance and renovation work.
Once the restoration is complete, the Batavia will be prepared to return to Museum Batavialand in Lelystad for public display.
Because of the fragile state of the ship, the transfer required careful planning, and it was uncertain whether the journey could proceed at all. Winds stronger than force 5 would have forced organizers to postpone the move.
