Amsterdam School Holiday Dates For 2026-2027

guide-100412

Planning family trips, childcare, or just wondering when the playgrounds will be packed?

Here are the official school holiday dates for Amsterdam for the 2026–2027 academic year.

For school holidays, the Netherlands is divided into three regions — North, Central, and South — and Amsterdam falls in region North (Noord), so these are the dates that apply to schools in the city.

Amsterdam school holidays 2026–2027

  • Autumn holiday (herfstvakantie): October 10 – October 18, 2026
  • Christmas holiday (kerstvakantie): December 19, 2026 – January 3, 2027
  • Spring holiday (voorjaarsvakantie): February 20 – February 28, 2027
  • May holiday (meivakantie): April 24 – May 2, 2027
  • Summer holiday (zomervakantie): July 10 – August 22, 2027

Good to know

The Ministry of Education fixes the dates for the major holidays — summer, Christmas, and May — while the autumn and spring holidays are advisory, meaning individual schools can deviate by a week.

Most Amsterdam schools follow the regional dates above, but it’s always worth checking your own school’s calendar before booking anything.

Because the whole of region North goes on holiday in the same weeks, flights and holiday parks get booked up (and pricier) fast around these dates — if you’re planning to travel, book early.

And note that in 2027, Amsterdam gets the earliest summer-holiday slot of the three regions: schools are back on August 23, while the south of the country runs into September.

Our family events calendar lists kids’ activities across the city every day of the year, and the international schools directory is the place to start if you’re new to Amsterdam and comparing schools.

The full official overview for all three regions is on the Dutch government’s school holidays page.
