The cellists of the Metropole Orkest step out of the full ensemble to perform as a quartet in an intimate acoustic setting. The Metropole Orkest is a Dutch orchestra founded in 1945 and is widely regarded as the world's largest full-time pop and jazz orchestra, with a long record of working with leading artists and Grammy-winning collaborations. Hearing a single section on its own shows the musicianship that usually blends into the orchestra's bigger sound. The cello's range, from deep bass lines to singing melodies, makes it well suited to small-group arrangements. Theater de Roode Bioscoop, a small theatre in a former cinema, gives the evening a close and personal atmosphere.
