Freedom Is Not Free: war, freedom and personal stories in a cafe
Personal stories about freedom, war and encounter take centre stage across two gatherings at Café Belcampo. The spoken stories are woven together with dance, music and images, so each account reaches the audience in more than one way. Storytelling evenings like these keep memories alive that might otherwise stay within families. They also give people from different backgrounds and generations a reason to sit together and listen. The title is a reminder that freedom came at a cost, and that holding on to it depends on people talking to one another. The gatherings are held in Dutch, so they suit anyone who wants to hear how war and freedom are remembered today.
