Hogewey-Midden, a 1960s neighbourhood just outside Weesp’s old centre, is due for a major renovation because its paving, playgrounds and sewer system are outdated.
The city will replace all the paving, while Waternet will replace the entire sewer system, and the plans also include new playgrounds and green spaces, including a Cruyff Court.
Preparatory work starts in Waarschapsstraat on Monday 19 October and will continue there until February 2029, after which crews will move on to the other streets in the neighbourhood.
Work will bring temporary disruption
Residents will not be allowed to park in streets where work is taking place, while cyclists will need to take detours.
Waste collection arrangements will change during the project, and temporary walkways and bridges will be installed.
The city plans to work on one street or a group of streets at a time to reduce disruption, with the full project expected to finish in April 2033, although the schedule could change.
With waste collection in Hogewey-Midden changing while the paving and sewers are replaced, residents may want a refresher on how rubbish and recycling work in Amsterdam.
