The Wibautstraat is closed to cars between the Prins Bernhardplein and the President Steynstraat, at the Ringdijk, while crews carry out major maintenance during the day and at night.
The road is due to reopen at 16:00 on Friday 23 October, after which work on the cycle path will continue until 6 November.
Project liaison Xandra Alvares told AT5 that the busy street is getting new asphalt and that its traffic installations, which have reached the end of their service life, are being renewed as part of the same job.
She said the work will make the junction with the Ringdijk safer for all road users.
Night work and diversions
Crews are working through the night so the road can reopen as quickly as possible, and Alvares said the team is trying to limit noise for people living nearby.
Residents told AT5 that the closure makes getting back into the neighbourhood slow and frustrating.
Drivers are being diverted via the A10, IJburglaan and Piet Heintunnel, or via the Gooiseweg, Berlagebrug and Stadhouderskade, while cyclists and pedestrians are guided around the works.
If you need another way across the east of the city while the Wibautstraat is closed, our practical notes on driving in Amsterdam may help.
