Streets and cafe terraces across Amsterdam were noticeably quieter this weekend as thousands of residents travelled to Biddinghuizen for the Lowlands music festival.
Local business owners reported fewer customers, with many attributing the drop in foot traffic to the festival or day trips to beach destinations like Zandvoort.
To support those who stayed in the city, one local coffee shop introduced a dedicated stay-at-home coffee menu item for people missing out on the festival campsite.
Alternative events for residents in the city
Nightlife spots also arranged alternative plans, including venue Skatecafé, which scheduled an event called Nolands for people skipping the festival.
Organizer Max explained that the party was organized specifically for Amsterdam residents who stayed home but still wanted to celebrate over the weekend.
