A video showing three people fighting in an upstairs Amsterdam apartment has recorded more than 14 million views on Instagram within 36 hours.
The footage appeared to show an authentic domestic dispute between a man and two women near an open window, filmed casually from the street.
The scene was entirely staged using actors as a promotional stunt by singer and impersonator Menzo Kortland.
Promotion for new single
The clip was recorded during the shoot for Kortland’s new single, titled Sukkel in Amsterdam.
Viewers online widely shared the clip under the assumption that it showed a genuine relationship argument, generating over 38,000 likes.
The actors featured in the scene also appear in the official music video for the song.
Kortland noted that the online attention spread internationally, reaching viewers in countries including Japan and the United States.
