Strandeiland is currently taking shape with sand, construction sites and the first houses.
The new neighbourhood will eventually add 8,000 homes to Amsterdam.
Of the planned housing, 40% will be social housing.
Another 25% is allocated for mid-priced rental and owner-occupied homes, while 35% will be free-sector rental and purchase properties.
Island facilities and transport links
The completed island will feature multiple schools, six bridges, a harbour, an inland waterway, a nature bay and greenery.
The IJburg city beach is also located on Strandeiland.
On the far eastern edge, the Tagorapark offers sports fields, school gardens, a bouldering wall and a skate park.
The area also serves as the start and end stop for tram line 26.
