More than 55,000 Formula 1 supporters travelled by train from Amsterdam to Zandvoort on Saturday morning.

National rail operator NS reported the passenger volume as a record number for a single morning.

Crowds of fans gathered outside the entrance of Amsterdam Centraal to board services heading to the Dutch Grand Prix weekend.

The queue stretched across the entire train platform and extended outside the station entrance.

Supporters reported wait times ranging from five minutes to half an hour, with some expecting up to an hour before boarding.

NS arranged extra train services for the weekend to handle the influx of racegoers travelling to see Max Verstappen.

Saturday was limited to qualifying sessions, and similar crowds are expected at the station ahead of Sunday’s main race.
