A new bridge deck for the Schinkelbrug is travelling to Amsterdam by water from Friesland on a pontoon. The structure is too large for road transport, requiring a route across the Wadden Sea and the IJsselmeer.
The installation forms part of the widening of the A10 Zuid and the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer junction. Over the coming years, the crossing will expand from five bridges to eight, including five for road vehicles, two for trains and one for metro lines.
Closures on the ring road
Crews plan to position the deck on the south side of the crossing on Wednesday or Thursday evening next week, following the placement of the northern deck in April. The operation was originally scheduled for Tuesday evening, but wind conditions forced a delay.
The inner ring of the A10 Zuid will close to traffic heading towards the A4 and Schiphol from junction S109 between 19.30 and 05.00. The connecting road from the A10 Oost to the A10 Zuid will also shut, with diversions routed via the A9 adding about ten minutes of travel time.
Weekend works and viewing spots
Additional closures related to the Zuidasdok project run this weekend. From Friday at 22.00 until Monday at 05.00, the link from the A10 West towards the A4 is shut from junction S107, alongside evening and night closures on the S107 entry slip road towards the A10 Zuid.
