Eurostar is set to face competition on its direct route from the Netherlands to Paris, starting from September 2026. Several companies are preparing to challenge the current monopoly on the service.
Budget carrier GoVolta plans to offer tickets from €19 for a daily service departing from Amsterdam. The route stops in The Hague, Rotterdam, Roosendaal and Ghent before reaching Gare du Nord in Paris.
The GoVolta journey takes more than seven hours and skips Brussels entirely. While the travel time is longer than Eurostar, the fares are significantly cheaper.
More services to London and Paris
Virgin Trains has secured permission to run up to 20 daily return trips starting in October 2030. These services will connect Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and London.
Arriva has also received approval from consumer regulator ACM to enter the cross-border rail market. The extra operators will give Amsterdam passengers a wider selection of departure times, price brackets and destinations.
