Het Nationale Ballet has fully booked a free public dance rehearsal on the main stage of the Stopera on the first working day after it was announced.
“For this special class, taught by director Ernst Meisner, we are moving the ballet barres from the studio to the main stage, so you can watch from the auditorium as the dancers warm up for the matinee performance of Swan Lake,” the group’s website says.
The next scheduled “public rehearsal,” on Sunday 18 October, is also already fully booked, but future sessions are likely to follow.
The company’s dancers begin every working day with a class to maintain their physical condition.
The public session will take place in one of the largest auditoriums in the country.
Opening the doors
The event is an initiative by the newly appointed ballet director Ernst Meisner, who aims to widen access to the company.
Het Nationale Ballet had long held a reputation for catering primarily to a select, separate audience.
Meisner stated that Het Nationale Ballet belongs to everyone, adding that he wants as many people as possible to enjoy it, whether they purchase a performance ticket or not.
