Amsterdam is looking for candidates to become its next night mayor, with residents voting over the next two months.
The Stichting Nachtburgemeester Amsterdam foundation is taking applications until 15 October for the post, currently held by Freek Wallagh.
The night mayor speaks for the city’s nightlife as an independent voice, representing its interests to the city, politicians and the sector.
The role is also a point of contact for creators, business owners, residents and media, and advises the mayor and city government.
The role and election
The election night is on Thursday 26 November at the Melkweg, where finalists will present their vision for the city’s night culture after several rounds of voting.
Wallagh’s final event
Afterwards, everyone who feels connected to Amsterdam’s nightlife is invited to talk and dance at Annie, the former Sugarfactory on Lijnbaansgracht.
There Wallagh will hand out night knighthoods for the last time in his term, an honour he introduced in 2023 for Amsterdammers who helped make the night kind, experimental and free.
All events are free and open to the public.
