National weather service KNMI has issued a code yellow warning for Noord-Holland on Friday afternoon due to incoming thunderstorms.

In Amsterdam, the warning applies between 14:00 and 18:00 as storms move across the country from southwest to northeast.

Hail and strong wind gusts

The weather service warns that storms could bring heavy rainfall in a short period, accompanied by hail up to two centimetres across.

Wind gusts during the showers may reach speeds of up to 75 kilometres per hour before the system leaves the country in the early evening.

Unsettled conditions across the weekend

The stormy afternoon follows several summer days, and unsettled weather is expected to continue through the weekend.

Saturday will start calmer during the day, but cloud cover will increase by evening, bringing renewed chances of rain and strong winds.

Sunday is forecast to be slightly less unstable with fewer showers, though breezy conditions and scattered rain will persist according to Weeronline.
