Households in the Netherlands can apply to the Energy Emergency Fund for help with their energy bills from 4 January to 7 May 2027.
From 1 December 2026, people can contact the fund with questions and prepare an application.
To qualify, households need a low income and a high energy quota, which is the share of gross income spent on gas, electricity or heating.
Households earning up to 130% of the social minimum need a quota of at least 8%, and those earning between 130% and 200% need at least 10%.
Students and households on a heating network also qualify.
The fund will pay half of the energy costs above that limit, with total compensation between €120 and €1,800.
On average, applicants will learn their amount within four to six weeks, and where possible it will be settled through their energy bill over 12 months.
In previous years the fund closed once its budget ran out, but the government says this time everyone who is eligible and applies will be paid.
With a budget of around €193 million, the government expects to help about half a million households.
