Christian rapper Hulvey cancelled his sold-out show an hour before it was due to start at Melkweg’s new Club Annie. He said explicit images and sexual objects in the venue made him unwilling to perform for young fans.

American Christian rapper Hulvey called off his sold-out concert at Club Annie, Melkweg’s new club, an hour before he was due on stage, AT5 reported on Saturday 17 October.

He said there were pornographic images on the walls and sexual objects in the room, and he would not expose his young fans to them.

Hulvey walked outside to tell fans still queuing that they would have to go home.

Melkweg had moved the show from its main venue to the newly opened club across the street because tickets sold so fast.

Dispute over the venue

Hulvey said his agent was never told about the move, so he only saw the room when he arrived.

In a September interview with Het Parool, programmer Milou Zoer said the club was meant to feel like a dark sex den.

Melkweg said it respected his decision and would not comment further.

Hulvey thanked fans for their understanding and said his team was working on a new date at another venue.

ChristenUnie MP and former Amsterdam council member Don Ceder offered to help him find a suitable location.
