Jumbo recalls four cheeses over listeria concerns

Supermarket chain Jumbo is recalling four of its own-brand cheeses due to potential contamination with listeria bacteria.

The alert applies to Jumbo Lepelkaasje and Jumbo Kaasplateau Verrassend across all best-by dates. Jumbo Biologische brie with a best-by date of 01-09-2026 and Jumbo Gorgonzola Dolce with dates of 03-09-2026, 08-09-2026, and 10-09-2026 are also included in the recall.

Refunds and safety risks

Customers who purchased any of the listed cheeses can return them to a nearby Jumbo store for a full refund without needing a receipt. The supermarket has also made customer support available by phone and WhatsApp on 0800 0220 161.

According to the RIVM, listeria is a bacterium found in food that can cause serious illness. While healthy individuals typically experience mild flu-like symptoms, nausea, or diarrhoea, health authority Voedingscentrum warns that infections can lead to severe complications such as meningitis, encephalitis, or sepsis in pregnant women, children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.
