Residents across Amsterdam noticed a heavy military helicopter presence in the skies today, prompting questions about why the aircraft were circling the city.
The distinctive double-rotor Chinook helicopter drew particular attention as it flew back and forth overhead.
Reports came from people living in the city centre, Zuidoost, Diemen, and Weesp, with several observers noting repeated flights over the IJ.
Medic Falcon exercise
The military presence is part of a scheduled training drill called the Medic Falcon exercise.
The operation is designed to prepare military personnel for operational deployments.
In addition to the Chinook, a maritime combat helicopter is also taking part in the flights above the city.
The training is due to end today at 17:00.
