IJshoeve Sloten has been named the best ice cream parlor in Amsterdam for the fourth time in a citywide test conducted by local publication Mokum Magazine.
The shop, located on Sloterweg in the far west of the city, scored a perfect 10 out of 10 from the testing panel, which evaluated 18 local venues for its fifth annual ranking.
Panelists praised the parlor for its fresh strawberry and chocolate flavors, generous portion sizes, and welcoming service. Two scoops of ice cream at the top-ranked shop cost €4.20, offering competitive pricing compared to central locations.
Top rankings spread across the city
Second place went to Monte Pelmo on Tweede Anjeliersdwarsstraat in the Jordaan, which received a score of 9.5 for its classic fruity and chocolate options. IJs van Oost on Javastraat finished third with a 9+ rating, recognized for making fresh gelato daily on-site.
Chocolatier Van Soest on Frederiksplein placed fourth with a score of 9. The shop is also expanding its reach this summer by serving ice cream during events at the Openluchttheater in the Vondelpark.
Pisa IJs leads on value
Pisa IJs on Scheldeplein rounded out the top five with a 9- rating. Operating since 1935, the South Amsterdam institution was highlighted as the best value among the top contenders, charging €3.60 for two scoops.
Prices across the 18 evaluated shops varied significantly throughout Amsterdam.
Venetië IJs on Scheldestraat (€4.50) and Jordino on Haarlemmerdijk (€4.00) scored highly, while historic bakery Van der Linde on Nieuwendijk offered the cheapest option in the test at €2.70 for its soft whipped cream ice cream.
Modern shops face mixed reviews
Higher prices did not guarantee better scores from the panel. Venues charging around €6.00 per serving near tourist-heavy areas generally received lower marks due to customer service issues, long wait times, or added digital tipping prompts.
The annual test evaluates local parlors based on flavor balance, texture, price point, and service quality, providing a snapshot of the city’s gelato landscape mid-summer.
