Part of the former Bijlmerbajes prison in Amsterdam is getting a new life as Bajes, a temporary venue for club nights, concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events.
The venue spreads across three spaces in the old complex and can hold 2,900 people in total.
It opens with a programme during Amsterdam Dance Event, from Wednesday 21 to Sunday 25 October.
Avalon Emerson, Alarico, Interplanetary Criminal and Ogazón are among the artists playing sets.
Levenslang makes way
The Bijlmerbajes was in use as a prison until 2016.
Levenslang Amsterdam, which opened on the site in 2023, is closing, and its space will become the Ketel room at Bajes.
The new venue is run by a team led by people from De Eeuwige Jeugd, the operators of Levenslang, together with Bulb Agency and Artists for President.
The city has given Bajes a temporary operating licence, and the venue is expected to stay open for the next two years while development of the surrounding Bajeskwartier continues.
If the ADE line-up at the old Bijlmerbajes has you planning more nights out, here is where else Amsterdam goes clubbing.
