Linnaeusstraat roadworks pilot pink diversion signs

A new phase of roadworks has started on the Linnaeusstraat, expanding construction to the section between Eerste van Swindenstraat and Tweede van Swindenstraat.

Crews are demolishing the old road surface, renewing infrastructure, and laying new tram tracks as part of a wider project running until late 2027.

As part of this phase, the Linnaeusstraat entrance to the Oosterpark is closed to cyclists for four weeks until 18 September.

Pink diversion signs tested

To guide cyclists around the closure from Alexanderplein, the city is testing bright pink diversion signs instead of standard yellow ones.

Research indicated that cyclists often overlook yellow signage among street clutter, prompting the pilot to see if pink signs attract more attention.

For car drivers, detour routes remain in place via Mauritskade, Wibautstraat, and Hugo de Vrieslaan.

Tram service returning to Wijttenbachstraat

Nearby, rebuilding work around the intersection with Wijttenbachstraat is progressing with new asphalt being laid.

Trams are scheduled to resume running across the Linnaeusstraat and Wijttenbachstraat junction toward the OLVG hospital from 25 September.

Project managers aim to reopen the intersection to cyclists and motorists as soon as possible after tram service returns.
