Ajax is working to sign Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare from English club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
British media report that the Amsterdam club is close to finalizing a deal for the forward, who would compete for a starting spot alongside fellow new arrival Marcos Leonardo.
Dispute at English training ground
Arokodare’s potential transfer follows a high-profile dispute at his current club’s training facility.
New Wolves manager Cesar Peixoto asked the striker to train away from the main squad due to ongoing transfer negotiations, but Arokodare showed up for practice regardless, leading the manager to cancel the session over discipline concerns.
The club subsequently hired extra security at its Compton Park facility to prevent the player from entering the grounds.
Responding on social media, Arokodare expressed disappointment over the reports, stating that he remains committed to fulfilling his contractual obligations professionally.
Career trajectory across Europe
The forward originally joined Wolverhampton Wanderers for 27 million euros from Belgian side KRC Genk, but struggled to make an impact in England, scoring just three goals during the season as his team was relegated.
Prior to his move to England, Arokodare built a strong reputation in Belgium, finishing as the top scorer in the top division with 21 goals during his final full season at Genk.
His professional career in Europe began in Latvia with Valmiera in 2019, followed by loan spells at 1. FC Köln in Germany and Amiens in France.
At the international level, he has earned ten caps and scored two goals for the Nigerian national team.
