Amsterdam has the second most expensive public transport among European capitals, according to a study by Greenpeace across 30 European countries (PDF).
Only London has more expensive travel passes than the Dutch capital.
The environmental organisation looked at the prices of monthly and annual passes across the capitals of the 27 European Union member states, as well as Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Steep fare increases since 2023
Amsterdam also placed second for the sharpest price increases since the previous study in 2023.
Travel pass prices in the city rose by 55%, a rate exceeded only by Nicosia in Cyprus, where fares jumped 67%.
Greenpeace noted that pass prices are the most important factor when commuters decide whether to switch from cars to public transport.
