Average earners can afford seven Amsterdam homes

A buyer earning an average income can afford just seven of the homes currently for sale in Amsterdam, according to mortgage advisory chain De Hypotheker.

Those seven properties represent a tiny fraction of the city’s market, where 5,691 homes are currently listed on property portal Funda.

The shortage of accessible housing for middle-income buyers is not limited to the capital.

Tight supply across the country

Across the entire Netherlands, only 1,000 homes currently listed for sale remain affordable on a standard modal salary.

The figures released by the mortgage adviser did not detail the exact maximum purchase budget or the specific neighbourhoods where the seven Amsterdam properties are located.
