Security workers at Schiphol Airport will carry out short walkouts on Tuesday and Wednesday in protest of heavy workloads and poor working conditions.
Trade unions FNV and CNV announced the 15-minute stoppages after an earlier ultimatum expired without concrete agreements from employers.
On Tuesday, guards will stop work three times, at 10:00, 14:00 and 19:00.
On Wednesday, five separate 15-minute stoppages are scheduled for 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 19:00.
Disruption across security checkpoints
The action involves security staff employed by Securitas, I-SEC and Trigion across several airport locations.
Stoppages will affect passenger security checkpoints, staff passages, perimeter security and the baggage basement.
Union representatives warned that travellers should expect longer queues at security checks during the stoppages.
KLM stated that it is working to limit disruption and noted that passengers do not need to arrive at the airport earlier than usual.
Staffing cuts and working conditions
Guards are demanding regular breaks, better rotas, sufficient recovery time, heat protection and more room to schedule leave.
Union officials also noted that staffing levels are too low to easily relieve workers when they need bathroom breaks.
Workplace tensions increased earlier this spring when Schiphol reduced its security contractors from five companies to three.
Unions say the transition caused high rates of sick leave, increasing pressure on remaining staff and prompting warnings of larger potential strikes.
