City enforcement officers have seized two trampolines that drew children to a playground on Jekerstraat in Amsterdam-Zuid for years.

The resident who looked after the neighbourhood initiative says there was never an accident in all those years.

They were removed at the end of July while he was on holiday.

The city told him it could not be liable for accidents or issue a permit for them.

It then offered to tolerate them if neighbours set up a foundation, had them approved and insured, but later dropped that plan.

A Zuid district spokesperson says the city’s volunteer insurance scheme could not cover them, and admits this should have been explained better.

She says around 7,000 children in the Netherlands end up in emergency care after trampoline accidents each year.

He could reclaim them from a city depot for a fine of over €200 but not put them back on the street, and fears they have been destroyed.

CDA district committee member Jur Limburg is raising the issue on Wednesday 7 October, calling the outcome discouraging for residents who want to improve their neighbourhood.
