De Boelelaan will close to traffic in both directions from July 20 through August 9 so crews can finish tram-track hardening, sewer work, and junction changes.
The full closure covers the section between the Parnassusweg intersection and Gustav Mahlerlaan.
Car traffic is diverted via Van Nijenrodeweg.
Cyclists are sent along Van Nijenrodeweg and Gustav Mahlerlaan for the duration.
Work so far
Construction on De Boelelaan began in May and remains on schedule, environmental manager Chiem ten Have said.
The central berm of the tramway has already been hardened so buses can run on it once the car lanes shut.
A portion of the new sewer system is also in place.
What remains is the final sewer section that runs under the roadway itself.
That requires opening all four lanes, which is why the full closure is needed now.
Traffic-light adjustments form part of the same package.
Junction changes
While the road is shut, crews are also working the busy crossing of De Boelelaan with Parnassusweg and Buitenveldertselaan.
The redesign creates extra space for cyclists and pedestrians.
Many of those crossing are students traveling to and from the nearby VU campus.
The goal is simply safer, less cramped crossings during peak times.
People who use the area regularly have noted that the cycle space feels tight today, especially in the rush hour.
Getting around
Public transport is being protected as far as possible.
Once the car lanes close, buses will switch onto the hardened tram track.
Short delays may still occur here and there.
Trams themselves return to running through De Boelelaan from July 20.
Anyone planning a trip through the area can check current roadworks on the City of Amsterdam site before setting out.
The works sit in a busy southern corridor that links residential streets, the Zuidas district, and the university, so a little extra travel time is worth building in until early August.
