Amsterdam Dance Event turns 30 with 3,600-plus artists: The Amsterdam Dance Event has released the final programme for its 30th edition. It runs from 21 to 25 October at more than 300 venues across the city.
Denk councillor says Amsterdam’s 30 km/h signs are falling apart: Denk councillor Süleyman Koyuncu says many of the city’s more than 4,500 signs are damaged because their material is vulnerable. He wants millions spent on dangerous traffic points instead.
€20 million Vondelpark villa is Amsterdam’s priciest home: A detached villa on the Oranje Nassaulaan in Zuid is on the market for €20 million. That works out to almost €36,000 per square metre.
Nearly half a million Dutch homes face foundation trouble: This year’s extreme drought is making foundation damage worse, and more homeowners are finding cracks in their walls. Experts expect hundreds of thousands more homes to be affected as the climate changes.
Van Gogh Museum to undergo major renovation from autumn 2028: The museum has reached an agreement with the culture ministry after a long dispute over who would pay. Work begins in autumn 2028, and the permanent collection will stay open to visitors.
Cruise Inn builds its third home on Zeeburgereiland: Volunteers are turning a former Pantar office into the rock ‘n’ roll club’s new venue after 26 years on the Zuiderzeeweg. Doors are due to open around mid-October, at first on Saturdays only.
Van Gogh Museum to open first Dutch Whistler retrospective on 16 October: The exhibition runs from October 16, 2026, to January 10, 2027, and is the first retrospective in the Netherlands devoted to the painter. It also explores his influence on Vincent van Gogh.
Amsterdam VVD seeks smoke- and vape-free school zones: The proposal would cover primary and secondary schools, with a 50-metre buffer around each. It also seeks tougher action against illegal sales and a single support route for young people trying to quit.
Artis holds first sensory-friendly evening at Micropia as quiet sessions spread: Fairs and amusement parks are dimming lights and lowering the volume as sensory-friendly events become more common. The changes are intended to reduce stress from sensory overload.
Wibautstraat closes to cars from Friday 9 October for two weeks: Cars will be barred between Prins Bernhardplein and President Steynstraat until October 23, while cyclists can continue using the stretch. Overnight work at the Wibautstraat/Ringdijk junction begins earlier.
