Cyclists on part of Amstelveenseweg path face 20 km/h limit in trial: The city will cap cycling speeds on a busy, narrow stretch in Zuid from 19 October to 13 November. No one will be fined, but a counter will track how many riders keep to the limit.
Amsterdammer misses world porridge title, plans return: India Mae Abbas from Amsterdam competed at the world porridge championship in Scotland but did not win the Golden Spurtle. Next year she wants to try again and enter the new Dutch championship too.
Enforcers seize neighbourhood trampolines from Jekerstraat playground in Zuid: Officers removed two resident-run trampolines from a play area in Amsterdam-Zuid, and the city then withdrew its own offer to let them stay. A local politician is taking the issue to the district committee.
Columnist calls Strandeiland tram extension a ghost line: Tram 26 now runs to three new stops near Strandeiland, where hardly anything has been built yet. Columnist Bas Kok argues the 47 million euros would have been better spent on the Zuiderzeeweg.
Amsterdam loses two Michelin stars and gains none: No Amsterdam restaurant won a new Michelin star at this year’s presentation in Maastricht. Daalder and De Juwelier lost theirs, leaving sixteen one-star and four two-star restaurants in the city.
Billboard singer Natalie La Rose teaches songwriting at a Noord primary school: Singer Natalie La Rose has paused her US career to run an after-school music course in Noord. Seventeen pupils are writing, recording and filming their own songs for a showcase after the holiday.
Amsterdam seeks candidates for new night mayor: Applications are open until 15 October, while voting is due to take place over the next two months. Finalists will present their plans at the Melkweg on 26 November.
Art café draws crowds inside Amsterdam’s Stopera: The Art Café in the renovated city hall is busy with visitors making art, while the new passage also has a museum, shops and food stalls. Foot traffic varies between businesses, and some retail spaces are still empty.
